Convenors are appointed for the following Standing Committees:
Health and Bio-ethics; Ecumenism and Interfaith; Education; Environment; International; Marriage and Family; Social Responsibility and Women In the Church.
The objectives are as follows:
(a) To provide information on issues relevant to Catholic women.
(b) To recommend appropriate action.
(c) To prepare responses and submissions to the Government and other (including the media) on issues of interest and concern.
Convenors keep a watching brief on their area of expertise. In consultation with the President and one other officer, they can convene ad hoc Working Groups, of up to 8 members, when needed. These will be for fixed terms of reference and budgets. In order to maintain a current list of suitable and willing candidates for inclusion as members of Working Groups, a Register of Expertise should be drawn up and maintained regularly. This to include Catholic women, and those with a Catholic ethos, nationwide. Members of committees should come from as wide a range of backgrounds, ages and experiences as possible. Applications for membership should be sent to the appropriate convenor with a C.V. indicating relevant interests, experience and relevant expertise.
