DESCRIPTION:The Education Committee would like to invite you to a webinar entitled ‘See\, Acknowledge\, Remember: Reading Female Subjectivity in Ancient Jewish Texts’. \n\n\n\nThis will be given by Oxford graduate\, who is also the recipient of the postgraduate award from the British and Irish Association for Jewish studies. \n\n\n\nPia Regensburger will propose a fresh way forward in the field of feminist biblical studies and feminism by: \n\n\n\n1. redefining the essence of feminism as a form of thought that not only tolerates difference\, but sees it as a fund of necessary polarities between which our creativity can spark; and 2. reading selected biblical texts through what she describes as a “lens of solidarity.” \n\n\n\nHer aim is to open a dialogue to examine within the webinar how wo/men can productively engage in critical readings of the Bible as a community.   \n\n\n\nPia graduated with a first-class honours degree from the University of Oxford in 2023 and is currently studying for an MPhil in Theology (Hebrew Bible) at Oriel College. DESCRIPTION:The book being discussed is ‘Phoebe’ by Paula Gooder. \n\n\n\n\nSometime around 56 AD\, the apostle Paul wrote to the church in Rome. His letter was arguably his theological masterpiece\, and has continued to shape Christian faith ever since. He entrusted this letter to Phoebe\, the deacon of the church at Cenchreae; in writing to the church that almost surely met in her home\, Paul refers to her both as a deacon and as a helper or patron of many. But who was this remarkable woman? \n\n\n\n\n\nIn this\, her first novel\, Biblical scholar and popular author and speaker Paula Gooder tells Phoebe’s story – who she was\, the life she lived and her first-century faith – and in doing so opens up Paul’s theology\, giving a sense of the cultural and historical pressures that shaped Paul’s thinking\, and the faith of the early church. \n\n\n\n\n\nWritten in the gripping style of Gerd Theissen’s The Shadow of the Galilean\, and similarly rigorously researched\, this is a novel for everyone and anyone who wants to engage more deeply and imaginatively with Paul’s theology – from one of the UK’s foremost New Testament scholars. \n\n\n\n\nPlease join the discussion on Zoom – everyone is welcome.

DESCRIPTION:Dear NBCW members\, \n\n\n\nI am hoping that many people have had the opportunity to respond to the latest phase of the Synod on Synodality via their diocese. \n\n\n\nWe would like to submit a response on behalf of the NBCW and so invite you to join us for a spiritual conversation around the subject of how we become more synodal in mission. \n\n\n\nAs an organisation we have been moving in this direction and it would be important to continue to reflect on what this means for us and for the whole Church. \n\n\n\nIt would be ideal if you could join us on 1st May at 7pm on Zoom\, but if not please send your reflections to Jordan no later than the 5th May- bearing in mind that our submission has to be very limited in length.
